Acne and toxins |
Toxins are a part of the air around us, the food we eat everyday and the water we drink. Our body has the ability to process and eliminate toxins from the system. The liver and kidneys are the main organs involved in processing toxic waste. However, when the levels of toxins in the body increases, the liver and kidneys can no longer cope with excess toxins and these compounds tend to accumulate in the system. This in turn causes hormonal imbalances and other such problems. Hormonal imbalances are the leading cause of acne. Sometimes, the body tends to remove the toxins through secondary means like skin and lungs. Accumulation of toxins in the skin creates an acidic environment which is perfect for the sustenance of Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria which causes acne. This bacterium tends to flourish in clogged pores and cause skin irritation and inflammation. Toxins also result in the generation of free radicals which causes oxidative damage of cells and tissues. The action of free radical can destroy skin cells, making skin loose, wrinkled and acne prone. To avoid acne outbreaks due to toxins, t is essential to maintain a healthy diet rich in antioxidants. Grapes, strawberries, raspberries, broccoli, spinach, parsnips have very high antioxidant content. Foods rich in fiber will also aid in the elimination of toxins from the body. Drinking plenty of water will also help eliminate toxins from the system and help clear acne. |
