Acne and androgen

It’s true that acne is often resulted by hormonal imbalance or hormonal changes which are occurring in the body of a person. Hormones such as estrogens and androgens are responsible for keeping the skin healthy and glowing. In most people acne formation starts in the teenage and continues till the age of 24 years. The onset of acne is with development of lesions on the chin, forehead and face of the skin. It is found that the hormone named androgen is responsible for triggering the condition of acne and skin related disorders. Due to androgen hormone, the sebaceous gland of the skin gets enlarged thereby increasing the production of sebum which is an oily substance present in the skin. The sebum which is produced gets accumulated in the follicles of the hair and slowly it goes up to the hair shaft where it reaches the outer skin layer. During this entire process, the dirt and bacteria gets mixed up with the sebum blocking the follicles of hair and ultimately giving rise to acne. The amount of testosterone hormone present in the male is more as compared to the female due to which the breakout of acne is more in males as compared to females.
