However, timely treatment can ensure control of acne rosacea and curb of further progression. There are many drugs and medications available to treat acne rosacea. The treatment regimen involves using oral and topical treatments. Oral antibiotics like minocycline, isotretinoin, and doxycycline. help in reducing inflammation, redness and swelling. To get results faster and better the patient must make sure that he/she takes all the prescribed medications timely for the period of time as suggested. Some of the topical lotions and creams that can be used to treat mild acne rosacea are Metrogel and Cleocin T gel. Metrogel has metronidazole which is an antibacterial and thus helps in reducing redness and lesions associated with rosacea. Cleocin T gel has clindamycin which is also effective in reducing redness and lesions. Creams having antibiotics like clindamycin and erythromycin are effective as they reduce skin inflammation. However, the topical creams and lotions are effective enough only during the initial stages of acne rosacea. In the later stages, it is recommended that oral antibiotics be prescribed or the combination of topical creams along with antibiotic oral tablets.
