BenzaClin is an anti acne gel used in the treatment of acne. It is a combination of clindamycin (1%) and benzoyl peroxide (5%) in gel form and is commercially marketed by Sanofi Aventis. This combination is several times more effective than each of the components alone. It is best used in treating acne of mild to moderate condition. It is a prescription drug which cannot be bought without your doctor’s recommendation. It works by the same mechanism as most other acne treatments do, by curbing the growth of P cells, thus preventing further breakouts. BenzaClin takes some times before results start to show. Sometimes, it may even worsen the acne in the first few weeks but that is completely normal and you should continue the medication. It might have certain side effects, for example, peeling and flaking, skin dryness, itching, irritation, redness and rashes. It should be applied twice daily and one must stick to the treatment for at least two to three months. It is advised that you use a good moisturizer everyday in order to reduce skin dryness and you should not use any other topical cream while using BenzaClin. Also, use sunscreen regularly as it makes the skin more sensitive.
