Blackheads, also called open comedones are black or yellow colored plug or bumps on the surface of the skin. These are nothing but follicles bearing wider openings. They are a form of acne which is filled with plugs of the oil called sebum and dead skin cells. The reason for their black color is the chemical reaction that takes place inside their tiny bodies which result into the oxidation of the melanin content. This reaction renders this petite follicle a black color. Blackheads are predominantly caused due to the accumulation of excessive oil in the sebaceous gland’s duct. These clogged hair follicles reflect the beam of light falling on them irregularly which is another reason why they appear black in color. Further, due to the rich melanin content, these follicles may appear yellow-brown in color at the time of their removal. The first step towards eliminating this tiny form of acne is the usage of acne medications and lotions. Forms of anti-pimple medication should be most importantly rich in contents like salicylic acid, Benzoyl Peroxide or beta hydroxyl acid. Further, if medicines fail to prove effective, topical retinoids and exfoliants can be used. Adhesive strips like blackhead strips can be applied and removed after ten minutes to easily remove the accumulation of this acne form on the nose and other affected areas.
