LED Acne Treatments Safe — But Not Always Effective
According to experts at home LED acne treatments are safe to use, but are not always effective in treatment of the skin condition. One of the newest ways to treat acne is with the use of LED light therapy. This exposes the skin to an assortment of colored lighting spectrums to clear up the blemishes caused by acne.
While many of the Hollywood crowd take advantage of the high priced treatment that can cost as much as $100 a session, dermatologists are not recommending it as an acne treatment. The LED light therapy can take six sessions or more and while it is safe there is not enough evidence that it works to rid the skin of acne. There are LED kits that can be purchased for home use and according to Dr. David Avram of Long Island College Hospital and a dermatologist the studies that have been done with LED light therapy have not met the criteria for a good scientific study. He did state that the LED light therapy can most likely rid the skin of inflammation and surface acne.
