Pimples and acne: are they similar? |
Pimple is a form of skin lesion that appears only due to blockage of sebum in the skin pores. These lesions appear in form of round bumps. Sebaceous glands are held responsible for the emergence of pimples. These glands are present in the interiors of every pore on the skin surface. These glands produce oil called sebum, which may be over-produced at time of hormonal changes. Excessive sebum gets accumulated on the pores and trap air borne bacteria. This causes blockages in the skin pore and in days to come, acne. These lesions are most commonly observed during puberty when the surface skin starts thickening. At this stage, the blockage by the sebum clogged on the skin surface builds up which leads to an outbreak of pimples. On the other hand, Acne Vulgaris, better known as Acne is a manifestation of skin disorder which results from transformations in the pilosebaceous glands due to stimulation of androgen hormones. The outbreak of this skin condition is observed when there are blockages in the hair follicles. As the soon as the keratin plugs and sebum accumulation build up, the first symptoms of acne become evident on the skin surface. In the following days, the appearance of forms of acne, pimples, whitehead and blackheads start taking place. |
