Who are More Prone to Acne

Acne is a common term used to refer to the plugged pores, pimples and deep lumps (cysts/nodules) which may appear on face, back, chest, neck, shoulders, or on the upper arms. Acne is not life threatening but it can really upset an individual. If the acne gets serious then it can cause permanent scarring.

Almost all people in their teens get whiteheads, pimple or blackheads once in a while irrespective of their heredity or ethnicity. Most of the teens treat acne by applying non-prescriptional lotions available in the market. But for some this problem becomes more acute. Generally, 40 % of the youngsters require the advice of their physician to treat their acute acne.

Generally both men and women are both equally affected by acne with some difference. But men are more prone to get severe and long lasting acne then women. Women are more susceptible to acne few days before their menstrual cycle starts. This is because of the hormonal change during that period. If they are affected in their youth due to these reasons, then there are chances that they may contract acne even in the adulthood. On the other hand, some people may get acne only in adulthood.
