Risk factors associated with Acne

There are several factors which increase ones predisposition to developing acne. Acne occurs when pres on the skin becomes clogged with oil. These clogged pores accumulate oil, debris and grime. This makes the skin more prone to bacterial infection and inflammation. The result is the developments of pustules, papules, zits, whiteheads and blackheads. Acne usually develops in teenage boys and girls, pregnant and menopausal women. This is due to the hormonal changes associated with age and development. Sometimes, the hormonal changes induced by birth control pills can also result in acne. Some cosmetic products containing oils and dye can clog pores and trigger the production of sebum. If you have acne prone skin, it is advisable to go in for water based cosmetics and toiletries. A family history d cane also seems to increase ones predisposition to this condition. If your parents had acne, it is more likely that you will develop acne in future. Excessive skin trauma caused due to vigorous scrubbing, tight clothes and helmets can cause acne. Direct sunlight exposure can worsen acne by increasing skin irritation. Similarly, the suntans and sunblocks can clog pores and cause acne. People who take drugs like steroids, B vitamins and antibiotics are also more prone to acne. Acne outbreaks are more frequent when the climate is hot and humid. Stress also seems to be a trigger for acne. Although there is no definite link between food and acne, it is advisable to refrain from spicy, oily foods and consume more fruits, vegetables and grains.
