Skin grafting for acne scars |
Sometimes acne can result in the formation of deep scars, called ice pick scars. These scars cannot be covered up by makeup or treated with conventional methods like herbal treatments and microdermabrasion. Deep scars can be treated by skin grafting. This technique is extensive and involves grafting skin from some other part of the patient’s body onto the area affected by acne scars. The scar is first removed using a cutting device and the wound is filled in using skin from another part of the body. Usually skin from behind the ear is taken and used to fill in the gap caused by deep acne scars. The skin graft can be held using skin glue. This procedure is conducted after applying local anesthesia. The skin graft may appear slightly different from the rest of the skin on the face it may also have a different texture. This unevenness can be resolved by using other techniques like microdermabrasion or chemical peels after the wound has healed completely. Skin grafting is only used for the treatment of deep acne scars. Superficial scars can be removed by using herbal face backs, microdermabrasion or chemical peels. Your doctor will be able to determine the depth and severity of your acne scars and determine whether skin grafting will be a suitable means of treatment for you. |
